Stress Related Employee Illness Costs U.S. Firms Billions Annually.
A troubled employee can cost you thousands of dollars annually when you consider loss of productivity, sick leave and lower services quality to your valued customers. In addition, their stress-related problems may impact negatively on your work environment. A recent Gallup poll of personnel and medical directors of small to medium sized firms revealed that 25% of a company's workforce suffers anxiety disorders or a stress related illness. Depression alone may affect 24% of the workforce, according to the poll. Studies of larger firms reveal that stress and depression cost a typical employer $8,000 per person per year and 16 days of sick leave. Further studies have revealed that employees utilizing an Employee Assistance Program for chemical dependency treatment, missed 44% fewer work days and filed $7,300 less in healthcare claims over a four year period, compared to those who didn't use a EAP.
The Employee Assistance Program.
An EAP (Employee Assistance Program), is a company sponsored benefit designed to assist employees and their dependents in dealing with personal problems that pose a threat to their health, well-being and work performance. Typical problems include: Alcohol and drug Abuse, Job Stress, Physical and Mental Abuse, Marital problems, Family, Children and Finances. Now, you can offer a cost effective assistance program to all your employees, administered by licensed and certified psychologists and therapists who are EAP specialists!
Self Referral- An employee or any family member may request help 24 hours a day by simply calling 215-545-7800. All appointments between your employee and our staff are strictly confidential.
Confidentiality is an important factor which encourages our service and allows the employee an opportunity to address his or her problems without any work related repercussions. All personal information is confidential unless the employee gives written permission to release it or in a life threatening situation.
Management/Supervisor Referral- Supervisory referral is in order when job performance problems occur. While the program is voluntary, supervisors need to stress the benefits of attendance and that the employee's sessions are in complete confidence with his counselor. In the case of a formal management referral, the EAP counselor will verify attendance to the referring supervisor. Unlike many in-house counseling situations, external EAPs have higher effectiveness due in part to the privacy and convenience afforded the employee.
Typical costs vary depending upon specific needs and company size. The EAP will provide each employee up to 3 counseling/assessment sessions in addition to a 24 hour Hotline Service. Participating members are also offered reduced fees if continuing professional services are necessary or desired in areas such as counseling, hospitalization or onsite seminars. To enroll or request additional information on the Employee Assistance Program, call Dr. Marion Frank, at 215-545-7800.
